What is the role of a Behavior Technician?
The Behavior Technician is part of an interdisciplinary team providing support to individuals to help them participate fully in social and instructional environments. They implement behavior analytic programs, follow individualized plans, and work under the direction of certified professionals.
What qualifications are required for this position?
Candidates must have at least one year of full-time paid work experience involving direct contact with children or adolescents, or hold a high school degree in a related field along with three years of experience working with individuals with developmental delays or behavioral challenges.
Is there a training requirement after hiring?
Yes, completion of the Behavior Technician training modules and the Registered Behavior Technician test for registration with the BACB is required within six months of hire.
What types of support will I provide as a Behavior Technician?
You will provide instructional, behavioral, and personal care support as needed, implement skill acquisition programs, collect data, and model behavior analytic teaching strategies.
Will I be working independently or as part of a team?
You will be working as part of an interdisciplinary team under the supervision of certified or licensed staff members, while also having opportunities to work independently.
Are there physical requirements for this job?
Yes, the job requires occasional lifting, carrying, and moving of up to 25 pounds, prolonged walking and standing, as well as the ability to respond physically to children and those with neurological impairments.
