  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related discipline.

  • Two years of experience with one or more of the following: analysis of acoustic data, signal processing or automation algorithms design, and/or estimating sonar system performance.
  • One or more years of experience in designing, coding, and testing complex MATLAB software.
  • Experience with remote field work either at sea or in geophysical applications.
  • Experience summarizing analysis results in PowerPoint and presenting research results.
  • Proven ability to work independently, formulate research questions, and take initiative.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Responsibilities

  • Support research and development activities in the Environmental Sciences Laboratory (ESL)
  • Process and/or analyze acoustic data for developing, testing, and evaluating SONAR systems.
  • Develop and implement research grade software and analysis tools in MATLAB and UNIX shell scripting. Software applications may include novel graphic visualizations, statistical analysis methods, or signal processing applications.
  • Travel to remote locations to provide support for data collection and processing efforts at sites and at sea.
  • Preparation and review of analysis presentations and technical reports, and presenting results at internal and external meetings.
  • Support collaborative research efforts with other team members.
  • Assist with data transfer processes and ensure compliance with security requirements.
  • Other related functions as assigned.
