Ensure formal appointments and acceptance of the Principal Designer and Principal Contractor
Notification of F10 to the HSE, where required.
Ensure effective communication between all parties including Mitie, our client, designers, and the principal contractor/contractors and encourage regular progress meetings to be undertaken as necessary.
Assist the client to identify and gather pre-construction information and distribute to designers, the principal contractor.
Undertake site visits to establish existing site hazards and client restrictions to include within the pre-construction information.
Identify gaps in pre-construction information, and advise the client where they require to commission further investigations and/or surveys, etc.
Ensure health and safety risks are identified and discussed by all parties; add to the project risk register.
Ensure designers comply with their duties under the CDM Regulations
Facilitate effective coordination and cooperation between designers and ensure designers have established safe methods for construction of unusual or complex designs and make this information available to the principal contractor/contractors.
Gather information from designers, including any design risk management information, to pass to the principal contractor/contractors.
Liaise with the construction team throughout a project to ensure that there is an ongoing exchange of health and safety information.
Ensure supplier appointments include the assessment of organisational capabilities and individual competencies (SKET), and any specific client vetting requirements.
Review and assist in the preparation of the Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans when required.
Undertake formal risk assessment and method statement reviews when required.
Ensure all CDM documentation and supporting information for each project from all parties are available.
Ensure contractors and designers hand over information for inclusion into the health and safety file throughout the construction phase.

Additional duties:
Undertake CDM health and safety inspections of live projects.

Job Overview

To manage a team of directly and indirectly employed design engineers; responsible for providing electrical design at LV-132KV, and technical services to ‘Major Projects' and ‘Customer Networks'.

The position holder will be responsible for communicating with customers, the DNO, TNO, manufacturers, suppliers and the construction team to ensure that the design approval process and the design construction process run smoothly and meet the relevant standards applicable. They will, be required to help the construction team interpret designs and conduct audits when necessary to establish and maintain works are at the requisite standard/compliant with the design.
The position holder will be required to contribute to business development efforts and support the tendering and construction team as required.


Main Duties

Managing a team of directly employed and indirectly employed design engineers and technical specialists.
Working with the ‘Major Projects Operations Manager' and ‘Customer Networks Manager' to ensure their teams capacity and capability match their requirements.
Timely reporting/communication to ‘Major Projects' and ‘Customer Networks' on progress, costs and risks as they evolve.
Responsible for input to project programmes and monitoring of same throughout the design phase.
Creation and sign off, of teams/third party design scope and/or programmes, and subsequent monitoring and control; to ensure works are delivered, to agreed timescales and cost.
Monitoring, control, and communication of work outside of scope that would be a chargeable variation.
Producing monthly reports detailing design progress on each scheme.
Work with Business Development team to assist with estimates and tenders.
Managing competence, training, and development of design team.
Working with clients, Network Operators/Owners (IDNOs, DNOs, TNOs and Private Network operator/owners) to determine and agree responsibilities and scope of design works.
Lead the design of projects and bids as required.
Guide the customer through the design process.
Obtain technical or major procurement item quotations.
Attend design reviews, design team meetings, and project meetings.
Promote and maintain a culture of continuous improvement within the team.

The person required will be highly mobile, motivated, knowledgeable with demonstrable practical knowledge of electrical network design from LV through to 123KV and commercially astute. With a proven track record of supporting teams in a demanding client-focused environment. The ability to work under pressure and achieve challenging deadlines is essential. Demonstrable ability to build good working relationships both within ESM Power and with external customers.


Essential Qualifications, Skills/Criteria:
Minimum Level 4 (HNC) Electrical Engineering Qualification and or demonstrable practical knowledge in a similar role. Degree level qualification desirable.
Demonstrable high-level knowledge of electrical design standards, policies and procedures associated with the installation and commissioning of electrical equipment from LV through to 132kv.
Management qualification and/or demonstrable practical knowledge of managing a team of minimum of 3 people.
Good written, verbal and presentation skills.
Pro-active, self-starter, enthusiastic, flexible and able to motivate staff.
