Schemes range from local developments of 50 new homes up to 20,000 unit green field urban extensions and multi-billion pound urban regeneration schemes in central London.</p>

We also advise our PLC clients at Group level on national issues such as cladding remediation post-Grenfell and Competition and Markets Authority investigations. The team, which is over 240 strong and is based in 8 of our offices across England, operates within Gateley Plc&rsquo;s Property Platform. This Platform comprises over 700 lawyers, surveyors, engineers, architects, accountants and support staff who provide a unique cross-disciplinary service delivery to out wider property client base.</p>

This opportunity is open to a lawyer who is currently operating at solicitor or associate level with experience within regulatory, health &amp; safety, or criminal law ideally between 2 - 7 years' PQE. We would be open to a more junior lawyer if they have the criminal law experience and drive &amp; enthusiasm to work on the regulatory side.</p>

About The Role
The role

Our business is ambitious for success, and we are looking to recruit a solicitor or associate to join Gateley who are excited by the opportunity to grow the business and to help manage our valued client base. At the helm of the national team is Ruth Armstrong – Partner & Head of Regulatory & Business Defence. Ruth is noted as a recognised leader in the field within the Legal 500 and has over 30 years’ experience of regulatory and white-collar defence work for businesses and senior office holders. Our team comprises of a number of experts who advise on high profile investigations for corporate clients.

Our clients include any business or office holder who may end up with a criminal conviction arising out of their work and includes: developers and construction businesses; manufacturers; sports clubs; hotels and leisure venues; as well as retail and food manufacturing businesses. The team is close-knit and very supportive. You can expect to collaborate on high profile matters and have the opportunity to work with solicitors, associates, and partners across the department.

The person

This opportunity is open to a lawyer who is currently operating at solicitor or associate level with experience within regulatory, health & safety, or criminal law ideally between 2 - 7 years' PQE. We would be open to a more junior lawyer if they have the criminal law experience and drive & enthusiasm to work on the regulatory side.

Candidates will also have the following:

Experience of a broad range of criminal matters (we are happy with a mainstream criminal defence practitioner willing to be trained in the regulatory side).
Experience of a broad range of regulatory matters for different sectors such as H&S, CQC, EA (this is less important if they have full criminal experience, but vital otherwise).
Willing to learn as there are none in the marketplace who do the same breadth of work as our team so there will inevitably be a degree of learning on the job.
Ability to travel for site visits and court cases when needed (there will be reasonable notice provided to accommodate for outside of work prior commitments and flexible working needs).

About The Role
The Role
As a Legal Assistant, you will provide comprehensive support to Ryan Ferguson, Shaz Sharif and their team of residential development specialists. Your responsibilities will include:

Assisting with the preparation and review of legal documents and contracts.
Conducting legal research and compiling data for case preparation.
Managing and organising case files and documentation.
Coordinating meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements.
Client onboarding and AML checks
Supporting the team with administrative tasks such as Land Registry documentation
The Team

Our Residential Development Unit exclusively partner with housebuilders. We work with all of the top 10 housebuilders in the UK and 18 of the top 20.

With 200 specialists, we have the largest residential development team in the UK offering a complete acquisition to disposal service. The team acts for national and regional housebuilders, promoters and institutional landowners on new residential developments of up to 6,500 new homes.

Our Land Team act on large scale development matters such as development agreements, conditional contracts, options, corporate and contractual joint venture and collaboration agreements. We also assist our housebuilder clients with strategic land projects. You’ll be able to rely on the UK’s largest plot team so that your focus is solely on land acquisition and development work. The team are supported to by specialist Litigation, Planning and Construction team so offer a full service to your clients.
Our London team are headed up by Ryan Ferguson and Shaz Sharif. This is a brilliant opportunity to learn from their experience and develop your career within this market-leading team.

The Person
The ideal candidate will possess:
A degree in Law or a related field.
Previous experience in a legal assistant or paralegal role.
Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Proficiency in legal research and document management.
A proactive and detail-oriented approach to work.
The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
